Detox Diets Work?

The body is constantly taking in substances that are toxic and bad for the organs through the daily meals. The kidneys are the ones responsible for detoxifying the body, or purifying the body of all the poison that accumulates, but they are not super detoxification machines. If too much toxins accumulate, it may affect the organs and cause them to malfunction…similar to taking in poison and drugs.

Many health-conscious people are now turning to a simple detox diet to cleanse the body of these toxins. You may not realise it, but when you are sick, you end up eating simple food and sometimes not even eating at all. This is already a form of detox diet, but one that is essential to purge the toxins from your body and make you well again. As you take a detox diet, you are also reducing the intake of carbohydrates and fats, so this helps to cut down weight.

One thing to take note is that detox diet is definitely not advised for long term, because your body still needs nutrients and energy to function. Starvation or abstaining from proper meals only leads to more toxins been produced in the form of protein digestion (the protein comes from your body itself!), harming your body in the process.

So, what kind of detox diet can you take? The simplest one, as mentioned above, is just abstaining from food for a day (and you must remember to eat in the evening to supplement the nutrients and energy for your body!). This is similar to fasting, so it is attainable, if you have a strong mind.

The other way is to drink vegetable juice or having a simple meal of salad or vegetables. These help to supplement the body with nutrients while not contributing to unnecessary carbohydrate intake. If you find eating vegetables or salad tough, just grind them into juice and drink it, since it is much easier to drink juice.
